Smart Workshop

Dear Neighbors,

You are invited to attend a community meeting seeking to reduce water bills by managing home irrigation systems and discussing smart water meters.

Both meetings are held at our Community Center at 10702 Cypress Creek Bend Drive, Cypress, Texas 77433.

Tuesday, April 10 at 6 – 9 pm or Tuesday, April 24 from 7-9 pm

Below is information about water usage in our community. We have found irrigation systems contribute the most to water usage in our community. In addition to irrigation we will be speaking about smart water meters and how they can provide information to home owners and the MUD about leaks and unusually high water-usage.

Our water system was designed to provide 455 gallons of water per household per day. If your bill exceeds $89.00 per month you are using above the design of the system. How much is the average bill?

In the month of November – our lowest usage per month:

  • 875 people pay a bill $140 per month or less
  • 122 people pay a bill more than $215 per month
  • The average (mean) water bill is $117.00 in November

In the month of July – our highest usage per month:

  • 700 people pay a bill $140 per month or less
  • 300 people pay a bill more than $140 per month
  • The average (mean) water bill is $160.00 in July

Tuesday morning update:

Your Severn Trent crews have continued working 24/7 to address the devastating challenges presented by our current weather situation. More and more client facilities are unable to be safely accessed due to the high flood waters. Rest assured, we continue to make every effort to keep your facilities in compliance and operating normally. According to the weather professionals, we have more rain coming. We will continue working and letting you know the situation as new data becomes available.

A few data points for your consideration:

  1. Limiting the amount of water used during this event is very helpful. The waste water plants in many areas are discharging effluent under water. We are still asking you to limit your use of water and do not flush you toilets until further notice.  We will inform you immediately when the situation is under control.
  2. We have contacted the TCEQ and informed them of our challenges regarding sampling and reporting.
  3. Unless you hear from an authorized ST Representative or official MUD Representative, your drinking water meets all drinking water standards and is safe to consume. There are many rumors and gossip about drinking water. We will immediately alert you if there are any issues with your drinking water. Please let me know ASAP if you hear/see any social media that reports otherwise. We will address.
  4. We are in constant contact with the City of Houston and all the regional water authorities making sure the water provided is of excellent quality and meets all federal drinking water standards.

WHCRWA: Notice of Anticipated Fees

The Authority’s Board of Directors anticipates increasing its fees in order to fund the massive water supply projects that are needed to meet the Harris Galveston Subsidence District (“HGSD”) groundwater reduction regulations and to avoid the $8.46 per 1,000 gallons fine that the HGSD imposes for non-compliance.

These water supply projects are briefly described in the enclosed material entitled “The Rising Cost of Water.” (Five copies of this material are attached and additional copies are available for your distribution to customers, upon request.)

To build these water supply projects, the Board of Directors anticipates increasing its fees by $0.25 per 1,000 gallons effective January 1, 2018, as follows: (i) the Groundwater Reduction Plan Fee to increase from $2.45 per 1,000 gallons of groundwater pumpted to $2.70 per 1,000 gallons of groundwater pumpted, and (ii) the Surface Water Fee to increase from $2.85 per 1,000 gallons of water delivered by the Authority to $3.10 per 1,000 gallons of water delivered by the Authority. Such increase would correspondingly increase the Imported Water Fee.

At the Authority’s Board of Directors meeting scheduled for November 8, 2017, 6:00 p.m., at 20111 Saums Road, Katy, Texas 77449, the Board intends to consider adoption of the proposed fees.
